top-up wind, and graphite powder put into the pendulum hanger vee notch hoping to make a difference to irregular timekeeping. The theory is that sun shining on the south wall of the building causes thermal expansion and tilting of the whole tower. The pendulum then will swing out-of-plane. The graphite will help the pendulum to find the vertical more readily
